It is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu calendar in the month of Shravana which typically falls in the August.         Raksha Bandhan can trace its origins to several centuries back. There are several mythological references to Rakha Bandhan as well. One story tells of the time when Krishna had cut his hand and Draupadi tore off a part of her sari to make a bandage for him.
